You Be the Judge: A Case from the Real World of Sentencing
People who attend this lecture will become aware of the many factors that can go into a sentence and achieve a better understanding of the criminal sentencing process.
Judge Bailin will present a real world, Boulder County criminal case. She will describe the case in detail and the possible sentences for the case. Members of the audience will have an opportunity to vote for the outcome they prefer having heard only the facts as presented and the possible sentences.
After the vote, Judge Bailin will present all the additional information available to the judge at the time of sentencing including the psychosocial evaluation of the defendant. Members of the audience will then have a second opportunity to vote for their preferred outcome.
